One of Jeff’s original techniques, hollow-form construction, is the
basis of much of his innovative work. From imaginative boxes and
free-form vessels to his signature pods, pins and pendants, the ability
to create original hollowware opens an array of possibilities in polymer
clay.
In this four-day
class we will explore a variety of small scale hollowware forms and
shapes limited only by your imagination. With simple techniques and
step-by-step instruction we will create small forms/molds of your own
design, and through clay-layering and multi-cycle curing build small
hollowware pieces. Next, through separate demonstrations and one-on-one
mentoring, we’ll illustrate how this basic technique can be adapted to
create small scale beads, brooches and necklaces or larger, lidded
boxes, vessels and bottles.
Whether your focus
is jewelry, vessels, or sculptural objects, this survey class will
expose you to this unique hollowware technique and approach. The
informal four-day format and evening studio access will allow
participants to focus on one area of directed study or sample the
variety of possibilities.
As with all Jeff’s
classes this is a technique workshop and not a project-specific class to
encourage exploration and personal growth. While not a technically
difficult class, all participants will need a working knowledge of
polymer clay.
