Class description:
In this class you’ll create a uniquely
personal walking stick by adding clay, fibers, beads and charms to a
simple wooden walking stick. The result will be a one-of-a-kind fully
usable walking stick as well as a metaphorical symbol of your personal
life journey.
First you’ll learn to sculpt faces and embellishments from a durable
self-hardening clay which will then be applied directly to the walking
stick. Maureen will demonstrate her easy-to-understand techniques for
combining puzzle-like shapes to create faces, hands and feet. Resulting
character faces will set a tone for each stick, and may be funny,
caricatured, serious, abstract , organic or any combination of moods.
After a discussion of symbols, their use and meaning, you’ll choose or
create a variety of embellishments and charms to complete your walking
stick. Class will end with a group gathering and storytelling circle.
