Where do we find faces in the world around us? On people? On
animals? In the clouds? On the "face" of a tree? In
the wave of grass or the shape of a leaf? Do these faces represent an
energy? Or are the faces ones that we imagine to exist, using our
powers of creativity?
In this class we'll explore the places that we find faces, and learn
some of the ways that earth spirits have been imagined or studied in
varying cultures and belief systems.
Then we'll explore ways to copy those shapes, colors and textures
using different types of clay sculpting techniques. We'll also add
paint and additives to the clay to increase the effect of an organic
sculpture.
These photos represent a few of the Elementals that Maureen has
created with clay. This is only a very small representation of
what can and will be created in class.
