Class Description: |
Details |
|
What would you create if
you had no limits to your sculpting abilities, or imagination, or time,
and you had a mentor and instructor to help you bring your ideas to
life?
Well, there are SOME
limits in this 6 1/2-day class, but it's the goal of the class to help you
stretch your skills so that you CAN create those things that you
dream about creating.
Attention to detail is
one aspect of outstanding clay work. Quality workmanship is
another. Personal style is another. Come share your stories
and explore your
personal style and clay "voice" with Maureen, and see what you'll
create.
This clay week begins with
each student, and Maureen, sharing photos, websites and/or artwork that
arouses their passion about figurative sculpture. Each student
will then choose several personal designs that they would like to
translate into clay. Then the rest of the week will be spent
making that happen.
The photos show some of Maureen's work and also some of
the possibilities of what you might create, but there is so much
more!!!!!

GENERAL
INFORMATION ABOUT CLASSES AND DORMITORY AT MAUREEN'S:
April
in Minnesota can be anywhere from 40 to 80 degrees, so check the
weather report before you pack.
You might want
to bring the following:
Walking Shoes: In case you wish to
walk to the park (about three blocks)
before or after class. Depending on the season and the water flow
there is a
lovely waterfall at the Mill Pond . Jordan is also known for its
antique
shops, which are located just down the street from the Center.
An
Umbrella
Camera
Layers of clothing. We have a room air conditioner in the
classroom, and we always have some people who are too hot and others
too cold. So bring options.
BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND DINNER BREAKS:
Snacks, breakfast and lunch are on-your-own, with your choices being
a
bring-with bag lunch, lunch from a local restaurant, fast-food
carryout,
grocery store deli or meat market
(across the street from our building). Students who have booked dorm
space
may use the upstairs kitchens. There is a refrigerator and microwave
in the
classroom. A small selection of pop is available for $.50/can.
Coffee and
tea are provided.
Formal instruction will be given during the listed hours for the
classes.
Evening studio times are generally available on the first evening of
a
two-day class, and also for those staying over for the next day's
class.
The instructor is not expected to be present during those times,
though
I always stay in the dorm overnight when I have guests..
STAYING IN THE DORMITORY
The dormitory is divided into 6 bedrooms, three of which are single
rooms. Three bedrooms
have two twin beds. Requests for the single rooms will be honored as
available.
The dormitory is a help-yourself facility, meaning you bring your
own sheets
and make your bed when you arrive (sleeping bags are also welcome).
Sheets
and a pillowcase are also available from us for an extra $5.00 dorm
fee.
Towels and washcloths are provided. In addition, please bring any
food items that
you might need. A full-service grocery store, meat market and
convenience
store are within a mile of the Creative Center. If you are
flying in, we will be sure that you get a ride to the grocery store
for your shopping "pleasure".
The dormitory is equipped with three showers, two kitchens and most
items
that you will need for food preparation, including coffee pots and
microwaves.
FOR THE DORMITORY, PLEASE BRING:
* sheets or sleeping bag
* pillowcase
* personal overnight needs
* food items as desired (dorm has two refrigerators)
* headphones and tape player (if you wish to have music - we request
that
you be sensitive to the other guests' need for silence.)
* alarm clock
CHECK-IN TIME - CHECK-OUT TIME
Check-in is between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00 PM, directly
before or after the class, or from 6:00 -
9:00 PM
if arrangements have been made ahead of time. A staff person will
generally
be on site each night during which there are guests, but it helps
with our
planning if we know approximately when you expect to arrive.
Check-out time is noon unless other arrangements are made ahead of
time.
You may still use the dorm kitchens for that day's lunch
preparation..
You
