 Class Description:    Details

The goal of this class is to provide time, space and techniques for seeing and sculpting faces in all their complexity.  The medium will be polymer clay over aluminum foil and wire.  Skills learned can be transferred to other materials.

The focus will be on capturing emotions and ethnic, age and sex variations in clay so that the sculpted character will reflect the intention of each student for that piece.  Both quick sculpts as well as more detailed work will be encouraged.

Class will begin with the sculpting of 4-inch faces, then each student will choose that size which works best for them for the individual exercises.  Sample boards will be created for each of the major facial features, including eyes, nose, mouth and ears.

Discussion and demonstrations will include painting,  methods of adding hair and types of armatures for finishing the figure.
