The dictionary defines alter ego as: (1). Another side of oneself. (2) An intimate friend; constant companion.

Do you ever wish you had the opportunity to "meet" one of your alter egos? Here's the opportunity to do so - at least in doll form! Join Maureen Carlson as she shares her techniques for creating a one-of-a-kind, 12-inch tall art doll to hang on the wall.  Class begins with a fast-paced, humorous exercise in which each participant selects one of their alter egos to explore. Following this group process, each student will choose from a handout on body shapes one pattern which best fits their alter ego’s personality and attitude.  

Instruction will be given on creating a basic profile face, hands, shoes and hats – as well as accessories – from polymer clay.  These will then be baked and attached to the wire armature.  Next the body will be covered with fibers, yarn, fabric, beads, wires and buttons of the student’s choice.   Techniques for finishing the dolls will include painting, wrapping, gluing and sewing. Energy and personality, rather than realistic perfection, are the trademarks of these very personal dolls.
