Explore the Fantasy World of Faires and Elves by first making a clay
tree - complete with doors and cubbies and places to hide or to sit in
the sun and preen. Add a swing, or a window for peeping out at the
world.
Then wait to see what characters from your imagination come out to
inhabit that tree.
Class
instruction will be given on how to build a basic tree and how to create
the clay characters to inhabit it. There should be time in this
5-day class to create one very detailed character or a whole family of
simpler ones.
Each student
will be encouraged to make the tree and the accessories uniquely their
own by adding things to the tree that make the maker feel at home.

Supplies needed for
class:
* Polymer clay,
any brand except Sculpey III: a selection of your favorite colors,
including clay for skin. You will
probably need enough clay to make 2 to 4 characters. The exact amount of clay will depend on how detailed and
how large of characters you wish to make.
We also have clay at Maureen's which you can purchase. If your
clay is extremely soft, please leach the clay by pressing sheets of the
clay between absorbent paper until some of the plasticizer is leached
out.
Also bring, if you have room, any of your mixed or
muddy clays leftover clays that might be terrific for the tree trunks
and as fillers - 1 pound approximately 1 pound. Sculpey or Sculpey III
is OK for this as long as you have stronger clays to use for the branch
tips. If you don't have this, don't worry, as we have bulk white
and pink FIMO Soft clay available for purchase.
* Plastic bags for leftover clay
* Paring knife or utility knife
* Knitting needles in a variety of sizes, including one that is a size
6, 7 or 8
*Sharp needle tool
* Brushes for sculpting. Include a
flat or filbert brush size 3 or 4, plus a filbert size 6. White
nylon bristles don't seem to work well for sculpting brushes, but sable
or Taklon are OK.
* Favorite sculpting tools
* One quote or photo that inspires you
*
Pasta Machine (no motors, please) - only if you are driving here - not
necessary if you are flying as there are some at Maureen's that you can
borrow
*
Paper towels or hand towel
*
Non-alcohol hand wipes
* Index cards
* aluminum foil
Maureen will provide the wire for armatures plus wire
cutters. |
Also bring: Some photos or pieces
of your work to show. |
