Class Description: Maureen will share tips and techniques for becoming a successful Storyclay Teller.  Class will consist of both discussion and hands-on practice.

Maureen has been telling stories about her characters ever since the mid 1980's when patrons at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival began asking for stories about her clay figures.  What began as a bit of fun during clay demonstrations turned into a whole career in Storyclay Telling and the creation of licensed, collectible characters, including the Pippsywoggins, each of which has a story to go with the resin figurine:  Piip Stories  Tale of the Pippsywoggins.

In this class, Maureen will demonstrate her process of Storyclay Telling, which is an audience participation, hands-on storytelling session.  During the actual Storyclay Tellings, which are appropriate for all ages, a clay character is created, along with its always unpredictable, meandering story.  Someone in the audience then "wins" the character.

Students in this class, #mc11b, will share in a discussion of the process and what makes it work.  Each student will be encouraged to develop a Storyclay Telling costume and persona which will be uniquely theirs.

Maureen will demonstrate how she uses a repetitive questioning procedure which allows her to create the clay character, talk, ask questions and listen - all at the same time.

Students will also learn the basics of creating a character from clay.  After the class, students will find it beneficial to practice the steps over and over until the creation of the character is almost automatic.
