Workshop Supply List

Students are responsible for providing
all their own tools and supplies for Sharilyn's workshops.
Due to traveling restrictions, etc.,
she is not able to provide extra tools, wire, or beads for students.
However, for this class she will provide copper tacks
for those students who cannot find them locally
and will also supply a metal hole-punch.

Must-Have Supplies

6´´ ruler
Ear plugs
Sharpie pen
Copper tacks
0000 Steel wool
Five copper pennies
Notebook & pencil or pen
Hard-plastic mallet or hammer
Chasing hammer with a convex head
Wire: 16-gauge sterling silver and/or copper
Flush cutters suitable for cutting up to 14-gauge wire
Steel bench block (jeweler’s anvil), 2.5´´x2.5´´ or comparable
Jewelry pliers: round-nose, extra-long round-nose, chain-nose and flat-nose

Wire

Wire is available in various gauges, or diameters.
When ordering, ask for ROUND dead-soft wire;
it’s the most malleable.
You will need approximately
12 feet of 16-gauge sterling silver round wire
to make all the jump rings and additional wire connectors, plus the clasp,
that you will be learning in class.
Suggestions: Bring three feet of 16-gauge
pre-twisted round wire (from Thunderbird, NOT Rio Grande)
to make interesting jump rings;
also, bring one foot of 20-gauge round sterling-silver wire
to make matching earrings.
Note: Sharilyn advises bringing more than the minimum
wire requirement to class for practice.
Copper wire is very workable, makes nice jewelry, and is cost-effective,
so bring some copper wire to practice with
and reserve your expensive silver wire for final projects.

Coins

You will need about
five pennies to make pendants
for the Ethnic Coin Necklace.
Bring a couple extra because,
time permitting, we will make matching earrings.
Option: Bring foreign coins
that you don't mind punching holes through.
Note: Thin coins are best; thick coins are very hard to punch!

Copper Tacks

Please bring a small package of
PURE COPPER TACKS (1/2´´)
which can be obtained from most hardware stores.
Please do not bring tacks
that are some sort of steel coated with copper.
Read the package!
It must say "copper tacks."
Sharilyn will bring some to class
for those who cannot find copper tacks.

Clasp

Sharilyn will be demonstrating how to
make your own clasp, but you are welcome to
bring a commercial clasp if you prefer.
In this case, an S-clasp is recommended.
