Friday Open Studios

WHEN:
From noon to 9:00 PM, most, but not all, Fridays. Please check the schedule each week either by phone or our website.  Generally on Open Studio Fridays you can come anytime from noon to 9:00 PM to just hang out or to work on a project. Bring a  bag “lunch” if you like, or, as time goes on, maybe we can make this a potluck night. We’ll see.

WHAT: I like to call these UFO days, like they do at Sievers School of Fiber Arts on Washington Island, Wisconsin. Sievers owner Ann Young told me that UFO stands for Unfinished Objects. And we all know that most creative people have lots of those.

WHAT IT'S NOT: Open Studio time is not class time, as usually there will be no actual instruction, but expect lots of sharing. Either Val Daniels or I will be here to answer questions and to help brainstorm ideas.

PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED:  From time to time there will also be a Class scheduled during Open Studio times, so it's important to know how many people to expect. PLEASE REGISTER IN ADVANCE.

FEES: $5.00 for the afternoon (noon – 5:00) and $5.00 for the evening (5:00 – 9:00)

The Well-dressed Mouse: The Ultimate Mouse Class

Instructor: Katherine Dewey

Note:  This class is limited to 10 People.  As of October 10 this class is full, with one on the waiting list.

Class Description:

This is the ultimate Mouse Class.  From the basics to the last details, learn how to use a variety of clays in a variety of ways as you build a super strong yet posable epoxy armature, model a mouse in polymer and bring it to life with texture and a touch of paint. Follow that experience with a side trip to the world of  costume design and create your own texture sheets, dabble with paints and powders, experiment with pencils and prints, manipulate large image transfers and small decals as you build a library of clay cloth samples all with one purpose--to send your mouse out into the world dressed in a fine and fancy outfit.

 Katherine will provide:

Workbook, armature materials, Mouse Clay, a modicum of clay for clay cloth, pencils, paints, powders, tons of transfers, tape measure.  She will also provide modeling tools for the students to use in class including texture sheets, texture samples for designing texture sheets, texture clay and other sundry stuff as you can never have too much stuff.

Students are asked to bring:

Needle nose pliers, pasta machine or roller (both would be nice), 1-3 six inch ceramic tiles, sharp scissors, exacto knife (with new blade), Fimo Gel, 4 oz. White Premo or Kato, and 1-2 oz each of a variety of colored clays of their choosing to experiment and explore fabric design.  Katherine recommends at least one metallic and one pearl be included, two paint brushes (#4 shader, #0 or 00 fine detail brush) with other brushes of the student's choice optional (ya never know), and note taking materials.

Students who have a heat gun are asked to bring it to class.
